Not knowing

Begin with the small things. Begin with what you can touch: a stone, rose quartz. Tammy keeps a hunk of rose quartz the size of a small radio in her refrigerator, next to the eggs on the second shelf. If you have been working in her garden, pulling weeds from the Goblin daisies or separating crowded astilbe, if you have been working and your muscles are sore and you want to lie on the blood red loveseat, among the lush cushions, press the arch of your foot against the rose quartz and close your eyes.
